We have access to excellent neurologic care right here in West Tennessee. The multidisciplinary team at WTH Medical Group offers outstanding medical care to help you reclaim your health. We treat the full range of neurologic conditions including stroke, headache, seizures, tremor, Parkinson disease, Alzheimer disease and other causes of dementia, epilepsy, neuropathy and multiple sclerosis. We focus on finding the causes of disease and injury, track their progression and determine a plan for treatment and prevention.
We are fortunate to have state-of-the-art facilities for evaluating and treating patients with neurological diseases. Among our on-campus capabilities are EEG, EMG, and nerve conduction studies, and MRI testing. We can do BoTox and other injections in the clinic and arrange for infusions for neurologic conditions on- campus. When needed, consultation with neuropsychology and neurosurgery is available in the same office. If hospitalization is required for a neurologic condition, we offer expert care by hospital neurologists, followed by post-discharge follow-up in the neuroscience clinic.

One Sunday evening as she was rushing to church, Marjorie Hopper hurried down her steps with her arms full of a big dish of blackberry cobbler. She never dreamed that her life could change so dramatically in that instant when you slipped and fell, tumbling and tumbling from the top until she landed at the bottom of the steps. She never lost consciousness. Still clutching her purse in her hand, she fished out her cell phone and called 911. The Medical Center EMS ambulance took her straight to Jackson-Madison County General Hospital Emergency Room where they told the 84-year-old woman that she had actually broken her neck in two places!
Everyone was skeptical that she would actually survive, but Dr. Cherqui with West Tennessee Neuroscience and Spine arrived and Hopper started to believe in a miracle. Not only did Dr. Cherqui tell her that she would live, but that she believed she would regain full mobility.
“Dr. Cherqui told me I would have to have surgery on my neck but not to worry, everything was going to work out just fine,” said Hopper.
Following major surgery and a fitting for a halo to hold her neck perfectly still, Hopper anxiously awaited the outcome. Weeks of rehabilitation were necessary but Hopper began to see light at the end of the tunnel.
“Now I am back to a normal, pain-free life,” said Hopper. Hopper is completely independent again and says she has returned to the church and regular daily activities. “I owe it all to Dr. Cherqui and her belief that I could get well again. I believe she saved my life.”
Mary Morgan was with a friend when they noticed a rise in her blood pressure and decided to call 911. The ambulance driver recognized the signs of a stroke and, seeing how rapidly Mary’s health was declining, decided to rush her to Jackson-Madison County General Hospital instead of the nearest facility.
Mary soon became unresponsive and a CT scan revealed a blood clot the size of a tennis ball on the right side of her brain. Surgery was her only chance of survival.
Luckily, Dr. John Neblett was there to help.
“Dr. Neblett saved my life. His expertise and availability are the only reason I survived. This would have been a fatal diagnosis otherwise. It is what killed my own mother.”
With 31 years of experience, Dr. Neblett’s careful surgery helped transform what could have been a fatal diagnosis into what he describes as a “miraculous” recovery.
“I feel like God was looking after me that day,” says Mary. “From the ambulance driver knowing not to stop until he got me to JMCGH, to Dr. Neblett actually being in the hospital at 5:30 pm, to the work on the stroke program which got me to the ED and to CT scan and then to the operating room so quickly. Without all of these factors, I would not be here today.”
