About
Although it may seem that sleep is simply a time for rest, the brain remains active, cycling through distinct stages marked by unique brain activity patterns. Sleep is a complex and active process, essential for survival and overall health. Research has shown that sleep deprivation can result in adverse health consequences for both humans and animals, including cognitive decline, impaired emotional regulation, and ultimately, death. Poor sleep, a prevalent issue affecting over a third of adults, can increase the risk of heart attacks, arrhythmias, stroke, dementia, and motor vehicle accidents. Since 1991, the Sleep Disorder Center has collaborated with local healthcare providers to improve patients’ sleep, leading to better overall health outcomes.
The West Tennessee Healthcare North Jackson Sleep Disorders Center is accredited by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine and staffed by Board-certified Sleep Medicine Physicians, Advanced Practice Providers, and Board-certified Sleep Technologists, all specifically trained in sleep medicine. The center offers consultations and treatments for a full range of sleep disorders by appointment.
***Accredited sleep laboratories at the following West Tennessee Healthcare hospitals offer sleep testing services: Bolivar, Camden, Dyersburg, Henry County, Milan, and Volunteer.
