Hospice Volunteers
- Hospice volunteers: some volunteers may have professionals skills or specialized expertise but most are just people who want to help their friends and neighbors and serve the community.Hospice volunteers provide some of the following services to our patients and families:
- Support for patients including visiting, reading, taking walks, writing cards and letters, etc.
- Respite and support for family members such as assisting with shopping or household chores or allowing family caregivers the opportunity to get some time away from the house. Family members take comfort in knowing someone is with their loved one while they are away attending to errands. They also appreciate a visit from someone who understands what they are going through.
- Bereavement support programs. Hospice volunteers can work closely with the hospice’s professional bereavement staff in duties that range from assisting as a support group facilitator to serving refreshments and helping with mailings to clients and families. Volunteers contact grieving families through telephone calls, mail, or personal visits. They assist with support groups, working alongside professional counselors.
- Administrative work. A volunteer with clerical skills can help in the office with simple administrative duties, answering phones, special projects, and clerical support, assisting in mail outs, etc.
- Special events require volunteer help! Our events such as the memorial service, fundraising, conferences, seminars, and more help patients and the community in numerous ways.
