Richard Hanna clocked out and headed for the parking lot after a long day of working in the Cardiac Cath Lab. As he passed by the Emergency Room, he noticed an older woman struggling to push a similar-aged man in a wheelchair to the restroom. She was having no luck getting the wheelchair over the threshold of the restroom. Richard stopped to help. While he assisted the couple, he quickly discovered that the man was not steady enough to be left in the restroom without help. Richard decided to delay his journey home and continue to provide assistance to the man.
Richard helped the man get safely in and out of the stall, then helped him back into the wheelchair. He pushed the man to the sink and assisted him in washing his hands before pushing him back to the waiting area. “I was concerned that the man was at risk of falling without someone to assist him. He was very unsteady, and not able to be on his feet safely without someone to help. I was not going to leave him in an unsafe situation.” Thanks, Richard, for being there when you were needed, and for taking your personal time to help this man who was not able to safely care for himself.
